School of Carpentry
In April 2026 we started a small carpentry training school in Bukavu for 8 street boys and girls. The technical training is part of a larger educational and rehabilitation program that also aims at family reintegration. The war situation in the east of the country since early 2025 has further increased the level of poverty and unemployment, compounded by the large number of internal refugees who have fled the conflict areas. All this contributes to the increase in the number of children who end up on the street, particularly in Bukavu.
FUTURE PLANS
We would like to increase our range of vocational training schools in Bukavu, with the addition of a sewing and welding school, for which we are still seeking help.
As part of our collaboration with the local association Msaada kwa Wanyonge ("support for vulnerable people") are in the planning stage of training workshops in local handicrafts for particularly frail elderly people in Mwenga and for handicapped people, and literacy courses for single mothers, as well as a project to support women's small business to encourage children's schooling, aimed at particularly needy families in Mwenga and Kamituga. This is with the aim of preventing child abandonment. We should start soon with pupil recruitment and teacher recruitment. Support for one of these projects could be very helpful to us!
